Re: ? Termites . . .

Oh man! What a a nightmare!! I hate swarming ants especially those big black ones, get the willys just thinking about it!!!

Hahaha ya I know what you mean! It's a 3 car gargage and I pulled the 3 boats out before I fogged. But when I opened the door they were all starting to scatter in every direction as soon as they hit the ground all throughout the garage so I ran around spraying the liquid stuff on the floor figuring they would drag themselves through it and die before they found new homes.

As I was running around with the spray I could hear them all crunching under my clogs.

I know I'm going to have nightmares following this

I'm with Maxxie 99.9%. I also worked for a pest control, and I'm pest certified/licensed in 3 states. I was also a home inspector for 11 yrs.

It is NOT the following: termites, powder post beetles, or any other insect other than carpenter ants. Termites will never, ever, never discharge wood, as that is why they are there... to EAT wood. That's their purpose on this planet. Powder post beetles will a) discharge a very very fine sawdust (hence the 'powder' in their names and b) you would see exit holes (little pin holes) throughout the wooden member where they are.

Carpenter ants a) do not, I repeat, do not eat/consume wood, at all b) discharge the dead colony members (thats why you'll see tiny bits of body parts).

The other .1% is just in case we're wrong. :D

NOTE - just read the OP's last post.... disregard this post, but there some educational value to it... i think :)
But in my professional opinion, it's carpenter ants.

You were correct . . . . Below is a picture of the little buggers :D

This is what the floor looked like when I opened the door 5 min. after the fogging. Then they started raining down an dthe floor turned black.

This was nice to finally see because after the first two treatments (liquid Bayer and then Sevin) I never saw an ant, only recurring wood flakes on the boat cover.

Thx for everyone's help. Saved me a $150 professional treatment. For my boat's 6.5 gal tank . . . that's a lot of gas :D
