I have kept a 8 x10 area on my toon front deck clear so I can toss up a tent and spend a few nights out on the water, and I have been looking at 8 x 8 x 72 in cabin tents, and have found one all most what I want it is what I want with the exception of it needs 2 doors, I want one door on the boat side and one in the front so if I am on the bank I can get off the boat with out taking the tent down and I haven't found one with 2 doors. But I can buy this one and have a door added any upholstery shop should be able to do it. Thought I would ask around first and see. I am sure this is nothing new and some one should make one. :D

Re: tent on a pontoon

there are also tent type enclosures made specifically for pontoons..... I don't know who makes em but I've seen em on other toons... the poles attach to brackets that mount to the rails and then the tent goes on... the ones I've seen look really nice and have doors at both ends

EDIT: I have decided to voluntarily remove the link I posted that was to the website of an iboats competitor.

If anyone wants to they can easily spend a couple minutes on google and find it for themselves.

Half enclosures are approximately $3,000, and full pontoon enclosures are close to $4,000.

A good upholstery/awning shop could custom make one for substantially less using Sunbrella fabrics, or comparable fabrics. Complicating things is that you've got to have windows that close up (from the rain) and screen enclosures to keep the mosquitoes out.

It's still an expensive proposition.

thanks smokeonthewater , I have looked at that one, and it will work , but I am keeping the front deck clear so I can toss out 2 cots and air mattresses that tent is made to work over play pen seating.

bamaman yea I have also looked at those and I may some time in the future go to one of those , but a simple camping tent is a lot cheeper and will work for now, the one I am looking at is 120.00 plus 50.00 to have another door way zipper sewn in. and it has 4 large vent screened windows. I really do like those full camper enclosures but simply cant afford one right now. I priced having one made for 3000.

I'd like to have a full enclosure to do some long distance inland cruising. But you can pay for many motel/state park nights in the meantime. The Tennessee River has places to stay and restaurants on the water--along the way.

My wife would really like a pontoon houseboat, but they're pretty expensive--and pretty rare.

They are actually not that rare. My dad has one on a lake in Southern Illinois and probably 30% of the 150ish houseboats on that lake are toons. Ranging from 20 footers to 50+ footers. If you have any local marinas, you might want to take a stroll down the houseboat docks and see whats for sale!

Get this instead of a tent. http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___28030 I have the big one and it's the cats. Also comes in 9' x 9' and 12' x 12', but I've never regretted going with the big boy. I can stretch it over the front half of the playpen and throw several feet of it over the bimini then tie it down at various points on the boat until it's snug and watertight. It's also an extremely versatile tarp that I wouldn't be caught dead without on a car camping or float camping trip. They're not cheap, but you can find them cheaper than this with a little poking around, and they're worth every penny IMHO.
