temp sensor testing

Can anyone tell me how to test the temp sensor to see if the hot alarm is working on a 1992 40HP 4cyl Merc. I grounded the wire coming to the sensor but no sound. Doea a 1992 have a alarm ?

If you ground the wire to the temp. sensor your temp. guage should go to full hot. If you have an alarm it should go off. Also if you have an alarm it should beep 3 times when you turn on the key.

No guage and no sound, guess the pee pipe is my only way to check the pump. I wonder if it came from the factory with a hot horn ? anybody know ?
