Tell tale nipple missing?

1986 Johnson 225, is this engine supposed to have some type of nipple on the tell-tale (Pisser)? After I changed the water pump I noticed the flow was still a bit odd. The hose that goes to the tell tale just sits in a fitting and is not connected to a nipple. Should there be one in there? What if I run with out it?<br /><br />Mac

It should be no big deal. The nipple just directs the spray away from the engine. It does not create any back pressure if that's what you're thinking.
