Hi all, finally got this old 200 running and it obviously wasn't flushed out much if ever. I'm getting bits of sand and shells and who knows what stopping up the little hole in the tell tale. Can I just remove the directional insert part of the flush port that's getting clogged and run it without itthumbnail_20230712_202051.jpg till it clears some more crap out?

You running on muffs?

Have you tried using the flush port to see if that gets rid of the problem?

I just installed a new water pump kit and have been running it on muffs. I did hook up the hose to the flush port and ran water thru it but not with the engine running.

I’m not familiar with your model but can say I removed mine years ago and just run a longer section of hose that sticks out an 1” or so but I don’t have to deal with clogs anymore.

No you cannot operate engine with it removed as it is a restrictor. Only remove it for flushing. Mix up some vinegar in a test tank and let run to dissolve shells

Two power heads and 20+ years of ownership. Never had muffs on my motor

The system is designed to be (back) flushed using the flush port. Run it on the flush port to blow the stuff out

Should have 30 psi in the water on a fresh water pump rebuild

I'm not sure I understand how running the engine with the flush port attached won't burn up the impeller. Is there enough water getting forced back down the pipe from the powerhead to the impeller to lubricate it? aren't the thermostats closed initially also? I can't find much info on it in the service manual.

Your simply reversing the flow of water through the power head. Instead of coming in through the water pump, it's going out the water pump
I can't find much info on it in the service manual.

Thanks for the replies, I looked cover to cover in the factory service manual and cant find anything regarding the flush port. I don't have an owner's/operational manual for it. I'll back flush it some more with the port and hopefully any more sediment and crap it will eventually all work its way out. If the tell tale gets clogged I'll just make sure I've got water pressure at the helm gauge and clean it out when stopped.

The attachment is from the Owner's/ Operator's manual.

I'll look in the OEM service this evening. Never bothered to look there since the Owner's manual had instructions on it's use.

Like I said, I put 1500+ hours on the first power head before the water passages in the head eroded out allowing water to get in the upper cylinders. Have 300-400 hours on current power head

I appreciate your help Dingbat, hopefully 1500 hrs is a good testimonial as to how well these engines last. I've heard they are pretty thirsty though and burn around 12 gph at 4k.

Must be a light boat.

Flow Scan = 31 mph @ 4400 rpm = 1.9 mpg in good conditions. That works out to roughly 16.2 gph.

In the rough I've seen 1.2 mpg
