Teleflex mechanical steering travel question

Hello,

How far should my motor be able to turn both ways? I recently fixed a seized tilt tube (gummed up with old grease) and since I reconnected everything I feel as though the motor's range of motion isn't as good as it was before. I have nothing to really compare it to so I thought I'd ask you all here. Below is a picture of my motor turned hard to both port and starboard:

I know that it doesn't take a lot of steerage to turn the boat while underway but I am a bit concerned with maneuvering around the the dock at my slip...Thanks!

How many times does the wheel spin from stop to stop? What helm unit do you have, rotary, rack or...?

I believe it is a rotary type and I can turn it quite a few times from stop to stop, maybe 8 rotations.

Agreed, however after finishing up it just didn't seem to turn as far as it did before. Just wondering if anyone has opinions on how far it should be able to turn. All of my searching hasn't come up with much - Thanks.

If you're turning from stop to stop on the motor your good.

Re: Teleflex mechanical steering travel question

If everything in the system remained unchanged, the only way to alter the range of motion is to install the link that connects the cable's telescopic ram to a different hole in the motor's tiller arm. I will look for a diagram and try to post it later. Good luck!

EDIT: The link below get you to Teleflex Marine online instructions that contain a diagram of the tiller arm. (Page 5) FYI, they show it but do not note it to install the connection bolt in the tiller arm hole closest to the motor. Hope this helps!

64 - I should have been more clear, it goes from stop to stop on the wheel but the motor can swing further when disconnected from the steering arm.

Willy - thanks a lot for the diagram, I will check it out after work and make sure I put it in the right tiller arm hole

The steering link always goes in the inner hole of the tiller arm.
