Ah, that's right. I'm going to have to look more into it if I get it. I forget whether the more aggressive timing curve is only with the KS connected, and how hard it would be to find the module, whether that's the same as the V8 (more tbv around for the V8), etc. would be a nice upgrade I think
I don't ever recall seeing a carbed TBV 4.3 that used a knock module. I'll look though my TB V ignition manual (4B) manual tonight but dont think you'll find a listing for it.
Attached is a module listing from sterdrive.cc , the only 4.3 knock modules it lists are for TBI engines with Delco distributors not TB.
One thing to keep in mind, the TB knock system get a constant 9V signal from knock module (std GM part) to the ignition module, otherwise it goes into retard timing mode. So if you have an issue on the water it doesn't fail to non retard mode (I know insert joke here...).
I don't think you have enough total timing in the module (22-24 total) to sweat it. I think why it is used on some of their higher HP engines is they are pushing timing and fuel curve more than the simpler carb set ups. Like you I had looked at adding this to my boat when I repowered 10 years ago and seemed like just keep the total timing low and not worry about it... drink beer and go boating...
if you can get a good used module as a spare for a reasonable price that is a no brainer. I bought one for $200 and its in my tool crate on the boat.
