Just put my deicer in the water plugged it in and it tripped the ground fault. The motor turned on initially but then turned off when the ground fault tripped. I took it out of the water and plugged it in to a ground fault and tripped that as well. Any idea why it is tripping the ground fault?

My guess is there is corrosion within the deicer

Do you have testing instruments?
I do have some testing meters but I have to be honest I don’t know exactly how they work. Unit is only two years old. If you can explain what you want me to do I probably can figure it out. Appreciate your help

Can you turn that pump impeller by hand or with a screw driver? If it th shaft was locked it would trip a brake if th windings ar bad th GFCI would trip.

Probably some condensation or water intrusion in the motor casement.
I would manually turn the impeller several turns.Shake the unit upside down
and place it in a very warm dry place for a few days.(my boiler room is like a sauna) . you can leave it on the seat of your vehicle on a sunny day .Try it again after that.Let us know if it works.Charlie

We don't have ice where I live so I have to ask, what is a deicer?
submersion pond pump that hangs from a float to keep ice from forming around your boat by keeping water flowing

Thank you I will try that. I was thinking about taking the impeller off and putting my drill on the shaft and let it run for a while. But I will do what you suggest and see what happens. I will let you know. I just need to make sure that it’s not going to trip again after I put it back in the water if I can get it to work on the land Without it tripping
