I bought a 2007 Q6 Tahoe with a 5.0 and alpha drive a month ago and the dealer still can't figure out where the vibration is coming from. It's really pronounced with revs up around 2500 to WOT but only with trim all the way down. They've checked allignment of the motor and then lake tested, but to no avail. Has anyone heard of this happening on any boat this size with similar propultion? They even put a new outdrive and propeller on the boat and the vibration is still there. I talked to the owner of a new 2009 Q6 at BPS who said his 2008 Q6 Had a similar vibration but all he had to do was tap the up trim and the vibration went away. Is it just Tahoe? If any one else is experiencing this I would love to know, this is driving me crazy!!

Re: Tahoe vibration

The only time I had a noticeable vibration was when I swapped my three blade prop to a four bladed prop. It turns out that the prop was unbalanced. Since the dealer looked at it, I assume its not a loose motor mount. You may want to post this on the Maintenance and Repair forum under Mercury and Mariner Motors. Trim or no trim, you should not have a vibration at all.

Re: Tahoe vibration

desertrat971, I just purchased a 2006 Tahoe Q4 with a 4.3L V6 190hp motor on it and I'm having the same vibrations. I bought it Saturday and put it in the water yesterday and noticed a vibration at the lower rpm range. It would immediately go away if I would throttle down or up. The dealer had to replace a bearing and a joint near the low end and it runs much smoother now than it did when I test drove it, but this vibration has got me a bit worried. My prop does have a decent sized ding or chip in it, but I didn't know if that was the problem or not? The chip is about the size of a BB that would be put in a BB gun. Other than the vibration the engine runs great. Lots of power and the tower really helped with my wakeboarding. If anyone has any info it would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Tahoe vibration

Though this is an old thread, thought I would add this for the archives. I smacked my first stock aluminum prop and installed a new one earlier this season. I had the orginal prop "rebuilt" to keep as a spare so not to get stranded the next time.

Next time out I had a good boating day and had some great top end speeds and the boat ran better than ever. Pulling in to the dock I smacked a rock and ended up bending the new prop after only three outings.

I put the rebuilt prop on before my last trip and wow, I couldnt believe how bad it vibrated. The prop shop did a great job on the appearance of the prop, you literally could not tell that it was the same prop that had the terrible damage I caused (also spun the hub when it hit).

I suggest if you end up with a used Tahoe and you have some vibration, dont rule out a poor prop repair job. Meanwhile, a new prop is on again, just waiting some rain so I can quit rubbing the rocks at my favorite lake (the lake level -7.5' to date).

EDIT: I took it out today and no evidence of any vibration. It was definately the prop.

Re: Tahoe vibration

It may be as simple as having you shift linkage adjusted. It may not be going into gear fully,Sugest this to you mechanic. Can be done at the motor end.
