For engine maintenance / service / warranty repairs, I don't have to go to a Tracker dealer, just an authorized Mercury service center, correct?

I am due for the 20 hr lower unit service and the nearest Tracker dealer requires a 100 mile trip with empty trailer, trailering the boat and driving 90 miles to the dealer. If I just need an authorized Mercury service center, then I can have it done at the marina where the boat is stored.

Your comments are appreciated.

Yes, your marina or as far as I know - anyone can do it (ie, your neighbor, yourself, a different dealer).

I just had the same thing done, but by a factory authorized Mercruiser dealer. Way cheaper than the dealer

I would take it to an authorized dealer for servicing ...and also out on an hour meter that runs off of your spark plugs. These boats do not have hour meters and the ones that run off of the spark plugs only clock hours when the boat is actually RUNNING instead of the key just being on. They attatched mine to the top cover of my Q7 motor for easy viewing.

A service center will know the hours on your boat when they hook it up, we had almost 50 hours on the boat when we brought it in for it's first service. (because there was no hour meter)

You tube has everything. It taught me how to drop the lower unit and change the water impeller and seals.

'Key ON' are you telling me you EVER have that key turned without boat starting or started? The buzz is SOOOO annoying - I can't hardly stand it to check the fuel level if needed....

I went the easy route and wired it under driversside dash to the keyswitch/gauge power. Easily checkable if i need to.

I was thinking the master switch being on not the key...and yes the only time I have the key on and not starting is to check the fuel tank level. I agree that sound is really loud and annoying!

Ahh, makes sense now. There is quite a bit of wiring/power under the dash that is only 'on' when the key is on. A lot of gauge power lights etc. Makes it easy to add devices/gauges/meters that are only on when the boat is running. Would like to add a voltage gauge or two at some point....but not sure if it is worth it.

Re: Tahoe Service

This is the hour meter I have installed...they secured it to the top plastic cover on the motor right in front so you can read it easily. The tiny bit of money Tahoe save by not installing hour meters sure makes it suck for the customer!

Ok here you go:

There two screws were used to secure the hour meter to the motor cover:

Here is a close up look at the hours on the meter (the battery is said to last about 10 years):

The wire is zip tied down the motor (I am pointing to the wire...lol):

Here you can see the rest of the wire is just wrapped around the plug wire...it's that simple!!

Hope this helps...it is simple and it's out of the way no need to replace any gauges!
