I've been shopping for a new to me boat. Will be my first boat, but I've always had a boat in the family. I've been looking at 17-19ft I/O bowriders under 10000. Everything I have found has been mid to late 90s V6 or V8.

Ran across an 05 Tahoe Q4 today for 9900. I viewed it in person, but did not water test it yet. Its in good condition, didnt have hours stated. This boat has the 3.0. We had a 03 Bayliner (shorter and lighter) than the Q4 with the same engine. I disliked the engine because it idled rough, dieseled after running it hard (boat was brand new), and it had to drag me a ways before it would pull me out of the water on ski's.

I plan to use the boat for weekend fun, cruising, and water sports. Will spend more time cruising than top end.

I'd like to know what current Q4 4cyl owners think of the engine and its benefits and shortfalls in relation to the Tahoe boat. Thanks in advance.

Re: Tahoe Q4 questions - 3.0 owners

im sure you may have moved on by now, but anyhow, here are my thoughts on my 2004 tahoe q4 3.0 mercruiser..

Have had the boat out now 6 times in the last 4 weeks. The boats duties are to pull my family (and some friends) around for tubing, cruising and kneeboarding. With just me in the boat, it hits just under 42 mph.. With the wife and two kids and gear, just under 40.

Had 4 adults and 3 kids in it, and it still managed 32 mph, and that was about 3/4 throttle.

havent skii'd with it, but pulling tubes and adult kneeboarding has not been a problem. Used it most of the day last saturday (on and off) and used 16 gallons for the whole day.

Im sure the extra power of the 4.3 would be even better, but for my family and what we use the boat for, I am more than happy...
