Hi All,
I just got my first boat. I am trying to access the gas tank and the compartment where the lines come out to change the fuel filter and install a water separator.
I cannot find a way to access the two inside compartments besides the engine. Should I take out the back of the seats? I do not want to take apart the backs to find out there is an easier way.

Thank you for your help

Welcome to iboats.

Just wondering why you want to put this on? Its made it 9 years so far without it.
If you do like I do and get your gas at a gas staion on the trl, I really dont see a need for one. That being said I have one and installed it, but a friend bought it for me as a present so I really couldnt say no.
And I took out the other filters so its the only one in the system.

No mater what you have to put it where you can get to it, so the more open the spot the better.

Thank you for the advise. I might not add the separator following your adivse, but I do want to change the fuel filter and my question is how to access the lines inside the boar where the filter should be? I am having problems with the gas getting into the engine, I just want to make sure that the filter is ok

Thanks

Why not just change the filter on the engine. There will be a gas filter on the engine. If you are worried about water you need to change gas stations., also DO NOT use Ethonol blend gas, on any seasonal engines, it creates a water vapor that will oxidize the alumumim in your engine and carb. There are products that can be added to your fuel , but why risk it to start with. For the extra cost in fuel you gain fuel milage as well cutting the risk of damage. Do your homework on Ethonol fuel!

You stated that yours is a 2001 Q3 ob! What size/make n year ob do you have ? Newer Merc ob's have the water/fuel filter canister on the port side of the motor. I have a Merc 150 efi on my Q3 and change it every year alone with fuel n water pump every two.As far as fuel if you can find fuel with out ethanol your lucky. Sea Bright and Sta-bil both make products the are to be used in marine engines to combat the water/fuel issue,I use the Sea Bright(wall-mart) my self and have had no fuel issues, have always stabilized fuel when winterizing for over 30 years and have not had a fuel issue.(knock on wood) good luck and keep asking questions!
