Tahoe Boat Salt Water Question

I'm thinking about purchasing a Tahoe Q6 boat. I would be using it primarily to head out to the lake but on a couple of occasions during the year I'd take it to the ocean. I have been told that these types of boats can handle the salt water as long as we hose them down properly and run fresh water through the engine which is time consuming (something I'm willing to do) but I heard from someone today that those boats cannot handle the salt water very well. Can someone here tell me if this boat can handle the salt water and what I can realisticaly expect if I do take it out there.

I've also been looking at a Searay 185 sport which is similar to the Tahoe in that it has an I/O engine. I've called the Searay dealership and they've told me that it can be taken out to the ocean but I wanted to hear opinions from other people who own boats.

Thank You

Re: Tahoe Boat Salt Water Question

dugarte, welcome to the forum. any boat can be taken into salt water, the ocean. 1 st you have to consider the weather, and sea conditions. i personally don't buy all the bashing that is going on it the referenced post. any boat that you want to keep in good condition has to be washed down, and flushed after salt water use.

we go to the Fl Keys for a month each year. the boat is docked at the house, every evening the boat is washed down to get the salt spray off it, and the covers installed. this way we have a clean, unsticky boat for the next day.

I have a Bayliner 175 that i only take into salt. It is true, if you want your boat to last you will have to wash it down each and every time when you take it out and flush the engine very thoroughly. I basically got my routine down and can get the whole thing done in about an hour and 15 min. I use Salt-Away religiously, it slices through the salt like it was not there, works awesome. I also bought a 5HP shop vac so I can spray down the whole boat in and out, then use the shop-vac to dry the rugs and seats. I then wipe the whole thing down. Regardless though, it is still going to be rough on your boat. So far so good. I used the same routine on both my jet-ski's and when i sold them you couldn't tell they were ever in the salt.
