I am in the market for the 225 deck boat but I can't decide if the 220hp V-6 is good enough or if I need to spring for the 350 MAG 300HP model (the 5.0L V-8 is no longer available). I want to have 8 people in the boat and pull two tubes. Opinions?

For 8 people and 2 tubes in a 22' boat I think you want the V8. Really, other than initial cost there's no reason not to get the larger engine. The fuel economy will be very similar regardless.
I have a 20.5 foot Larson. It has a 250hp 5.7. I regularly have 8 to 10 people along for tubing, skiing, etc. It is enough power but that's it. The next boat will have a larger engine.

I have the 4.3 MPI 220 hp V6 and it has plenty of power for tubing, skiing, and wake boarding, AND it is a 20' 6" boat. Honestly though has it been offered with the bigger motor I would have bought that...why?...well because it is bigger!...lol

How much of a price difference is it? Why did you choose the deck boat? It sure doesn't look like it has much wind protection. It also looks huge for 22' so I would get the bigger motor after looking at the video. There sure looks like a lot of storage on that boat!

I have an older Four Winns Candia now and I like deck boats because of the extra seating. My current boat is 22'7", 235 HP, 5.8L V8, 3200 pounds. It has no trouble with a loaded boat and two tubes. This new one would be 220Hp with 3800 pounds. The bigger motor is $7,000 more. So I am trying to decide if it's worth that much.

Wow that is significant price increase...do you take it out in the ocean? If so it would be worth the price for the bigger motor IMO.

I know! $7,000! That's why it's worth it to me to get other opinions rather than just the dealer. You know what they will say.

Nah, no ocean. Only inland lakes in Michigan.

Well depending on if you're going to finance it or not, if you are I would imagine that your payment would not go up all that much and you would have the power if needed.

Re: Tahoe 225 engine size?

I searched around for a tahoe ski fish all I could find was 190hp v6. I finally found a 2006 q6 witha 220hp v8 it was in texas, but I bought it and had it delivered, sight unseen, worried about that one, bought it from a consignment boat shop, the owner sent me all kinds of pics and showed me the scratches and even took it out for a test ride and let me know if there was anything wrong. when it arrived it was great shape I just needed to put new tires on the trailer. long story short get the bigger motor! I was glad I did. and you will too.

I wonder if there is a real difference between the 5.0 220 hp and the 220 hp V6?
