I made one of those big mistakes and had a "friend " put gelcoat on my deck. It was one coat and it is tacky after 10 days. What can I do to fix it? would a second coat work? I do need to put a second coat on anyways. There is a product called PAV which is a drying agent I think. Anyone know anything about PAV?

Re: Tacky gel coat

Actually it's called PVA (PolyVinylAlcohol). What Brand of Gelcoat was used? Was Wax used? Gelcoat is "Air Inhibited Cured" so it must be protected from the air in order for it to fully cure. Since its been 10 days the PVA may not be successful. PVA is to be sprayed on just as the Gelcoat is starting to tack up. Not sure what will happen if you spray it on 10days later. It may cure but not sure how it will effect the overall strength and viablility of the Gelcoat. We have a forum expert, ondarvr, that could give you some great advice, if you post the specifics of what was use and how it was applied.
