TACK TO BE OR NOT TO BE

I have a 1959 35 hp. johnson. I want to install a tack to optimize the engine.It has a electric start but no generator.It has a standard ignetion,points ,cond. ,camshaft.after checking it appears the only tack avaiable are the ones you wrap a wire around one spark wire for the read out.does it work on any no. of cyl.( 2-3 -4)and are they accurate or just another toy that may or maynot be at best a reference point but not the actual RPM.

Try www.tinytach.com they make them to work on any motor and they are reported to be good, accurate tachs that are easy to install.
