Hi Ihave a 79 85h johnson I was wondering how many poles the alternator has and how do test the rectifier to see if it is good because i put my volt meter on the battery and started it and it did not change. <br /><br />my tach= I- ign, G- ground S- gray wire from control box is that right. if it is the gray wire has nothing when motor is running.<br /><br /> Thanks

12 pole alt <br />use an ohm meter to check diodes in rectifier should have continitity in one direction only
