I have a Chrysler 70 hp model 707HF. I need to know how many pole my stator is for the tach. My tach is adjustable but no instructions with it. Most tach settings show idle to be around 800 rpm but vary at higher rpms.

Re: Tachometer

Thanks Rickdb,<br />I don't think my 70 has a 20 pole stator and this doc supports that. I guess I'll need to get a stobe tach or dwell meter to set this thing exactly though. Great help...Thanks again.

Re: Tachometer

35 and 70 HP 1968-1983 should have 12 pole switch position 6. If you can see the stator count the coil windings and X 2. All 125 Force outboards have 10 sets of windings = 20 poles. The paper Im looking at shows all 70 Hp having 12 poles. The special tach is for the 20 pole stator. If that be true a Johnson/Evinrude tach should work on the 70 HP.

Re: Tachometer

I found a tach for the force motors here Outdoor Superstore. Too bad the 20 poles are like hens teeth, however Iboats does have some search for faria. 0-7000rpm universal has a provision for 20 pole.
