Tachometer Trouble

New to Iboats and have read alot of threads so I know someone can help me out.

I have a 2002 Glastron 195SX with a 4.3L Volvo. This year, my RPM gauge quit working, worked fine last year, this year it just stopped. I checked all connections underneath the dash and all appear OK. All other gauges, lights etc. are working properly (Except a non-acurate gas gauge....Common problem all over). I believe this problem may be in the engine compartment.

Any Ideas?

Re: Tachometer Trouble

Get a manual and they might give you some troubleshooting numbers....like a voltage to read at the tach with the engine at a certain rpm sort of thing.

Then if the correct voltage is there (check 12v and gnd at the tach too) go after the meter. If not go after wiring and clean terminal contacts between tach and engine. If they are good your tach sending unit is bad.

Check the wire color on the "S" (send) terminal on the tach. That wire comes from the engine compartment and is fed by the ignition system. Check continuity of that wire. If its tight at the engine, tight at the gauge, and +12V and ground are present at the tach you very likely have a bad tach.

Re: Tachometer Trouble

Just got back tonight and heading back down on Thursday. Does anyone know where about the sending wire would be attached on the engine? I had the boat winterized by someone I don't normally use, and I am thinking they may have messed it up.
