Tachometer replacement

I have a 1998 Johnson 50 hp 2 stroke and the tachometer is not working. I need to replace it but would like to know if I can use any electric tach or do I have to have a special one for this?

Just about any outboard tach will work. When you get it, it must be set to 6P for proper operation.

Just don't pop for an automotive tach from your local car store. Outboard tachs are driven by the engine alternator. Car alternators are driven by the engine ignition system. Get your tach right here on iBoats.
