Tachometer Options?

I am considering the possibility of adding a tachometer to my DT25C.

The motor is mounted on a NON-console flat boat.

Here is the question, what is available that would work for my application? I'm sure that someone out there has thought about this and researched what is available!

The tachometer needs to be large enough to be seen and it needs to be mounted into a housing where it can be mounted to a flat surface. It can not be a flush mount as there is no console to mount it into. I only have a small box mounted that contains my electrical fuses/switches, 12v accessory plug and my fish finder.

Before someone suggests a Tiny Tach, please don't bother. It just doesn't fit the application. The lead is way too short to mount where it can be seen, it is really too hard to glance at and see, and the cost vs. battery longevity is unsatisfactory.

I know that there are tachs available galore for the application, but nobody really addresses mounting them into a pod or housing. All literature addresses flush mounting into a flat surface only and don't give depth dimensions.

So, for the sake of curiosity, what is out there?

Re: Tachometer Options?

I mounted a tach into an old burned out plastic head light that came out of the old 87 van I had, you can mount it into any plastic or aluminum box to protect the wiring and back of unit and seal it up well, and then mount that where you want.
Buy the tach you want and then see what the dimensions are and then find a box it will fit into.

Re: Tachometer Options?

I love fabrication projects...but...I would really like to install a manufactured housing.

I guess the nostalgia of muscle car era has never gone away for me. I really liked the over sized aftermarket tacks that every would be gear head strapped onto their cars.

In reality, I would much prefer to flush mount one if I decide to set one up. However, I just don't have a space to mount one and I don't want to build a new box for the boat. The one I have is small, functional and tucked out of the way. I do have room on the top next to the fish finder to mount a small tachometer if it were in a compact housing, however!

I appreciate the suggestions, though! Hopefully, some of the other board member will join in on the brainstorming. I'm sure that I am not the only one to contemplate this type of set-up!

I really like to get into discussions like this because it sometimes creates some interesting solutions that I would not have thought of trying.
