at about 4500 rpms. 1987 rude 140, Teleflex Tach (origianl). Motor runs fine and appears to be charging the battery as usual. Just started doing this. If I reduce engine speed to idle, I'm good until I hit 4500 rpms again.

Pole selector switch on Teleflex is in correct position.

Any suggestions on this problem?

Thanks,

mine used to do something similar .... your rectifier/ power pack is the problem...

try this http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=190636

i belive your motor has a water cooled rectifier... if not use this link to test it... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=190638

if this dosnt help you prabably either have some wiring problem, which i doubt it, or tach i bad.... good luck ... keep us updated...

You may need to clean your wiring connections, especially the ground wires.
