Tach wiring

I am picking up a NOS Tach for my 1979 85HP Johnson. my question is there is a pigtail already connected to the control box appears to be switched power for my trim&tilt and fuel. How is it pinned out I do not want to mix up ground and tach sense

I think there should be a single gray wire coming out of the control box, that is the power wire for the tac.

If you have them there will be a black for ground, purple for 12V, and gray for the tach signal.

I can do that, if I can avoid taking the controls apart and just get the pin out that would be ideal though.
