Tach wire

Opened up my 79 Johnson control box to replace key switch. Found wire connected to gray tach wire run back to positive of battery. What would that do ?why would someone do that?

They would do that when having a bad guess.
Or if the power wire to the control was corrupted so they changed it to that wire
