tach trouble

1983 115 evinrude, tack works fine until i get over 4500 rpm. then it pegs right. if this is a short where should i look for it?

Its possible the rect is reaching a threshold and going open, try reading charge V across the battery terminals at the threshold.
Check terminals on the back of the tach for loose connections or green tarnish.
