Tach stopped working

My son bought a 92 deck boat boat with a 150 Evinrude. The tach just stopped. Where do I start? Everything else is OK

The charging system may have quit. The tach runs off of that. Put a volt meter across the battery, take it out and run it and see if the battery voltage comes up to about 13.8 to 14.2. If it doesn't you may have a bad reg/rect.
