The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
I recently bought my first boat. It' a 2003 16' 7" G3 V167C with a Yamaha 50TLRA outboard. It has no gauges in it and i was hoping to install a tach. Could any of you give me some pointers about the wiring.
Thanks in advance.
If the boat has an instrument panel, the wiring to the proper terminal on the motor may already be there. Here's a generic wiring diagram for instruments, courtesy of Guru Silvertip:
I searched the engine compartment and didn't see any wires marked "tach" So i was going to look inside the remote but i don't see a good way to get it apart. There are 3 phillips head screws that come in the front of the remote but they must have nuts on the back that i can't figure how to get to.
I did finally locate a harness coming out of the remote. It has 4 wires they are as follows.
Red- Constant hot
Black- Ground
Yellow- Hot with key in run position
Green- Hot while engine is cranking
Is this the harness that the tach would connect to??
Many thanks
Tom
