tach doesn't work ---

ok guys --my merc manual is on loan to one of my friends -----my tach quit working ---i did hook up another tach to the terminal of the non working tach and it doesn't work either ----now where do i attach at the motor area to check out...or what is possibly the problem.

Have you been having probs with the engine charging the battery? If so, the stator or regulator is dead. I don't know what year or size your merc is,or where you had it plugged in. Most Mercs have a 3-prong plug at the control that the tach plugs inta.<br />You may have to disconnect the harness to this plug at the motor,and check it for end-to-end continuity. I hope the stator is ok.

The engine is a 1983 mariner 115hp ----do ya have schematic for it --

had similar problem.hook remote tach to gray wire from rectifier. my wire broke in harness and drove me nuts. if charging system is working well,just rewire. if not, time for new rectifier.
