So have a 2006 Crownline 250CR with a 5.7 Merc 2bbl TKS with Bravo 3 O/D. Boat has been fine with no issues shifting. Ordered a 'new' rebuilt carb and put it on the other day. Today was the first time taking it out for a cruise and it ran great. Only issue was occasionally when shifting out of neutral into forward there was a short hesitation. One time I gave it a little more throttle and got a thunk when it engaged but the other times it just went into gear smoothly after a few seconds.

I may have the idle set a little too high. Dash tach reads just below 800, maybe 700-750. I'm wondering if this ids the issue? I can turn it down a little and it will still idle. Actually right before we untied I bumped it up a little so might have went too far.

Any other ideas?

Carb came from flyingfishcarburetors. Carb seems perfect. Shipping was delayed a few days but other than that it seems great.

Thanks!

are you saying the engine is stumbling before the drive engages fwd gear or it takes a bit for the drive to get into gear?

your description sounds like a misadjusted shift cable, poor quality gear lube or an internal drive issue. bravo drives should not take a few seconds to engage fwd gear

Is there a shift interrupt switch for Bravo drives, I mean has to be right? Maybe the switch is sticking?

Not a stumble, just a hesitation.
The drive lube was changed at the end of last year. Everything was fine until I swapped carbs so I don't think it is outdrive related. My thinking is either the idle is too high causing an issue with the shift interruptor or maybe the shift cable is out of adjustment since it is a different carb and the linkage might be 1/16" or so different between the two? Nothing else was touched.

The Bravo drive has a clutch, not an interrupt. If you go to a rebuilt carb and it has a flat spot, it needs adjusting to match your engine. Might check throttle pump and see if it can be adjusted up a notch.

Both carbs are set on the middle setting on the accelerator pump. Whatever it is it 'snaps' into gear once it catches. Not smooth like a clutch.

so just to update this thread...realized the shop sold me the wrong o/d oil. I always use mercury/quicksilver stuff but that shop only had sierra so i asked them which one i needed. over last winter i was hoping just putting the correct oil in it would fix it but no luck. so looks like i need a new cone clutch now. it's pretty good when its cool and gets worse as it heats up. gonna replace it myself over winter. just trying to find where to buy the cone clutch. i want the merc brand, no after market. other than that boat has been great. installed a lewmar V700 windlass about a month ago too. once i get the cone clutch fixed boat will be like new and all dialed in

I use Performance Product Technologies. Others use use other OEM sources. Used to be iBoats was an OEM, haven't seen anything like that lately.

I know this is an old post but it needs to be answered.

No interrupt switch on a Bravo. They have cone clutches not dog clutches...

My guess is that the power pump (accelerator pump) is causing hesitation. I am familiar with quad-jets causing hesitation issues. 2 barrels may not have the same type pump, but I bet they do.

Not a fuel issue. Engine runs great, just that the outdrive won't engage

Have you checked the shift cable adjustment?

no i haven't but doesn't feel like that is the issue. If i let it sit a few without touching the throttle it will engage, which seems to me that it isn't the shift cable?
and haven't checked it cause i'm not real sure how to...lol
