i just replaced my old s/b for a new cdi. a mech. told me i needed a new one because i had no spark. well i still dont have any spark . could i have did something wrong ? or was i told to replace the wrong part?

I wouldn't have replaced the switchbox until i'd seen DVA and OHM readouts from the stator. How do i know this? I just made the same mistake - although, in my case, half my stator was bad AND one of my switchboxes blew.

You'll also want to check your kill circuit per your manual.

hey jeff

iam new at working on outboard motors and i need all the help i can get. was hooking up the new wires from the old s/b to the new cdi unit. i was fallowing the instructions to the letter, when i was done there was a brown wire left over from the harrness.i could not find a place to hook it up.from the other side i hook the brown wire where it went acording to the directions.

If it's like my 1973 Mercury 650 the brown wire is for a tachometer but I also just bought a new after market switchbox and it said it doesn't come w/ a tachometer circuit.
