Hello, I tried to search for the answer to my question, but no luck. So here I go, I wanted to know if I could take the auxillary oil tank off of my 2003 Johnson 150hp 2 stroke, and have it work on a 1998 175hp Yamaha 2 stroke. Also if my controls and cables will link up as well.
I'm thinking about repowering and I'm trying to save as many pennies as I can in the process!
Thank you in advance for any information you guys can provide.

No, they won't work. The Yamaha has a oil control module on the block that controls the pump on the external tank to signal it to pump. The module also receives a signal from the small oil tank to stop pumping when it's full.

Any used motor being sold should also come with the external tank and wiring to hook up the oil injection. I would be wary of any engine that's had the oil injection bypassed, as there's no reason not to be using the injection. Yamaha's oil injection is completely mechanical (not electrical) and they're bulletproof.

Another way of phrasing it is, Johnson tanks suck, Yamaha tanks blows
