I recently swapped a lower unit from a 1979 115HP Johnson to my model 77S 140HP Johnson only to find out the prop turns opposite from the selected gear on the controls. Any sugesstions? Thanks signed new to the forum.

Re: Swapping Lower Units

The 77 engine uses a different shifting mechanism under the bottom carb. That belcrank system on the 77 means that the lower unit shifts backwards from the 78 and later models. You may be able to swap the 79 intake manifold so that you can use the 79 shifting mechanism instead. One of the experts on the board will chime in with the correct information.
