Suzuki water strainer

I have a 2019 DF90ATX Suzuki. The water strainer came off the lower unit. The motor surged. The water pee tube still flowed. Was the surge a result of a water pressure sensor? Will replacing the filters cure the problem. Could I have sucked trash into the motor that could cause this surge?

I have DF90ATX . I lost water strainer on the lower unit. The motor had a constant surge and loss of power. Is this a result of the loss of the strainer?

Which filters might that be ? Does the water indicator still pees strong say at idle, fast idle rpm ? Debris could have been suked all the way up, if the surge continues start checking the water pump housing, water tube, thermostat area for partial water obstructions.
