How to remove the upper long clutch rod from the engine once the top and bottom ends are disconnected. Seems it can't come out from the top due to the intake casing in way. So if the lower unit is removed will the long rod "slide" out of the bottom from the casing where the rod is in the tubular inner pipe . What I have is a 25" shaft engine and converted it to a 20" shaft engine bt removinf the spacer and installing a lower 20" shaft unit. Trying to remove the longer shifting rod shaft out of the 25" engine and replace it with the shorter shift rod. Thanks

If anything like a Yamaha, which I suspect that it is, the power plant needs to be removed to gain access to the shaft.

Thanks. The rod shaft with the golf like end OD diameter looks to be close to the ID diameter of the tube its in. I hope I can pull it out from the bottom once the lower unit is removed. I've had 3 of these DT140's 20" shafts (this is the 1st DT 140 fuel injected one) over the past 30 years. I think the carb units had room to pull it out.
