Suzuki 140 (1997)...bought new batteries thinking old ones were not holding charge. Engine tries to turn over but not enough to kick over engine. Just noticed cables going in motor got very hot. Still with new bat's...motor has hard time turning over. Hadn't started motor for a couple of months. Any suggestions???? Thanks

Hot cables says bad cables, or loose or corroded terminal ends. Remove, clean (as in shiny bright), inspect where cable enters the terminal end and then reconnect and tighten securely. That means you check both ends of the battery cables, not just the battery end. The connections on the solenoid are also in that system and need attention as well. "Looking" at connections is not acceptable. You may have a bad starter but that can be quickly proven by simply using jumper cables to jump from the battery directly to the starter.

May want to pull plugs and check to see that motor is not binding up,
Just a thought.
