I want to put a bimini top on my supersport 160 this year but I really don’t like idea of it getting in the way when it is stowed.
What do you guys that have them do?
Lay them across the back at the splashwell?
Lay them on the windshield?
Stand them straight up overhead?

These pics are when I was test fitting it. Close to where it ended up though - lays just beyond my fishing pole holders on the splashwell in the back. I can also flip it all the way forward if needed for some reason.

I never found it to be an annoyance while not in use because if Im in the boat, first thing I do is put it up, usually before I even launch. Rarely ever used in rain here, always for protection from the sun.

Last option is get quick connects where it mounts to the boat. Then you can take it off quick whenever needed. They are awkward to store off the boat though.

Thanks. Part of my concern is that I want a boarding ladder on the back for swimming. I guess once I get the step over platform done I’ll see how much real estate is left.

What is your Dash made of? looks like walnut. Pretty sharp. I also like your teak look flooring

I bet there would plenty of room to step over the top when its down if you have a swim ladder and step platform. Plus if its hot enough for a dip, my bimini would be up.

Thanks! Dash is mahogany, lightly stained and finished with 3 coats of spar. Floor is a faux teak hydroturf knock-off. Very comfy to walk on barefoot, and waterproof. Technically adds floatation too since it is closed cell foam?

Do you have a picture with it up?

See below! My only complaint is how tall it is, but i inherited it from the PO. Im average height so I could get away with a few inches shorter. Purely a cosmetic complaint. Protection from the sun is essential.

They do have biminis that have the rear fixed support so I suppose you could have it permanently up but closed when not in use too. My old boat had one like that. I much prefer this one that lays flat for travel. 7674F48B-0FC6-4E4A-AF03-D88CFBCDB17C.jpegD23F31FC-6FCF-44A3-A578-D806605DE2FF.jpeg

That is a sharp boat. Do you know how tall your top is? I’d like mine to be Enough for somebody say 6’ to stand up under easily.

Thanks. Im not exactly sure, but when I looked online, a very common size is what they call 54” in height. To measure, they say measure from your mounting point to the desired height.

So my 160ss has a 22” depth from the floor to the mounting point. Add 54” to 22” and thats 76”, divided by 12” and it equals 6’4”.

That sounds about right because Im 5’10” and I have around 6” of head clearance when standing I bet. Good to know for next time I need a bimini top - Id get a few inches smaller. At 6’ tall, it sounds like the 54” tall bimini, like I have now, would be the right size for you.

I'm starting to lean towards getting an umbrella. They say they are easy to rotate/tilt to follow the sun.

Nice!! That will last years, and is cheap enough to just replace whenever it wears out. Want to say mines on year 5 or 6 now and is just a little faded.

A Bimini is a game changer!

I've been very happy with my "KING BIRD 3 Bow Bimini Top Cover Sun Shade Boat Canopy Waterproof 1 Inch Stainless Aluminum Frame 46" Height with Rear Support Poles and Storage Boot 5 Colors 5 Sizes"

It has great headroom, very sturdy with the rear support poles and the integrated storage boot is another nice feature...quite a value.

I mounted mine on sliders that came with the boat. In rivers we fish mainly from stern when we're not drifting....I just slide it beyond the stern rod holders and it's out of the way when not in use. I had to get a little creative with the slides themselves (thread link).
