My old OMC 6 gallon gas tank gauge sits near empty allthe time because the old cork float doesn't seem to float anymore ! It's also flaking and crumbling - not good for a gas tank. What should I replace the float with? I thought of a wine bottle cork, but maybe there is something better ?
Thanks, - Will Thur

The cork might not be a bad idea. Coat it with PVC cement or model airplane dope before putting it in service.

Some of the old OMC tanks have service kits available. Most include the float.

As mentioned, a wine cork will do, if treated to withstand todays fuels.

Actually, any float will do. Ask your OMC/Bombardier/Johnson-Evinrude dealer for ANYTHING he has in stock.
