I recently picked up a 16 foot fiberglass boat. Its kind of an ugly red color, and it had a patch done to the fiberglass and is a different color there. I would like to paint it sometime this winter but im not sure how. I have no idea what kind of paint to use (not even sure whats out there for boats). I want to paint it black (is this a bad idea?) with red accents to match my car. My other question is where do i put the boat to paint it? I cant really just leave it on the trailer so is there some kind of stand i could make or buy? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Suggestions....

hi my friend......lol

at first glance of the title of this thread ....my suggestion would be for us all to stop typing and lets go for a beer :D

you have some reading to do....

there are tons of paint threads on the forum....

you can use anything from rustolieum to immeron...
what you want it to look like will depend on your level of dedication to the job.

for cradles....click the link below......and see the index....it will even tell you how to flip the boat if you want.

cheers

Hello 32..

If you paint it black then keep that baby covered :)

Like Oops said..( I think ) flip it over..paint bottom .. reflip and paint deck.

Again .. like Oops said.. How much you want to spend ? Imron isnt cheap..Awlgrip(craft2000) isnt cheap.. Basecoat clear coat is expensive :) .. Rusto is Inexpensive.

Re: Suggestions....

You can use any paint really.

As suggested do some forum searching you'll find lots of info.

There are marine paints you can roll on or spray but you can also use an automotive paint and match your car for real. My brother had his Velocity jet painted to match his Dodge Magnum RT infero red.

It's a matter of what you want to spend.

By the way cool boat.

I'm prepping for paint now and plan on spraying interlux brightsides fire red.

Anyone used these? Do you know what the brand is? I'm looking for something cheap. I'm happy with the way the boat is now (faded and mismatched) but if i could paint it for cheap with it looking decent i think its worth a go!

Petit Easypoxy is one. Good 'ol Rustoleum has also been used with success.

Petit and interlux both make paint you can roll.

Do a search of roll and tip painting.
