Okay, my grandson will be 7 next month and I am at a loss for a gift. Any suggestions??

It's a tough age and he is in first grade.

What are his hobbies?

What $ limit do you want to spend.

A few suggestions based on the wants of my kids and nephew at that age:
model airplanes or cars
remote controlled toy (boat, car, helicopter, blimp, etc.)
nerf guns
fishing pole
skateboard
scooter
A day with Grandpa fishing
ice cream making kit
high performance kite
video games
a bike
a BB gun or Pellet gun then teach them to use them properly
walkie talkies
Lego sets

I would also ask your grandson's parents for a few ideas.

BB gun or sling shot/ paint ball gun if you really want to make some enemies.
Don't get him clothes or books, those are the worst birthday gifts ever. No electronics, kids have too many video screen crap, sit around and get fat type stuff now.

Got a go-cart race track around you?

Fishing gear is also very cool, or a mini bike, new peddle bike.

Try a Lionel train set. Little boys love trains at that age. And some big ones too... like me.

my niece is the same age,( only child), and gets showered with every possible toy on her b'day. we now give her a "day out" with us, she gets to pick a restaurant, pick a movie, and choose one activity afterwards. ( she always wants to go to chapters ? lol) its not as cheap as buying most toys , but it should leave her with some childhood memories.

If you're looking into what 7 year old boys dig, I can only shed light on what my 7 year old son likes...remote control cars/boats. Anything Skylander (Sony Playstation, Wii, X-Box 360). My son loves playing his video games!

We got him a fishing pole along with one of those Razor Electric Scooters...which he also loves!

Apple iPod Touch, iPad? I know these are pricey items..since you didn't give us a price range, I'm just telling ya what my kid has and uses?

I, like others have mentioned, would suggest a day of just he and you, whether it be fishing, zoo, working on the boat, whatever catches his fancy when he's with grandpa...he'd love! Breakfast at McDonald's (always a favorite when I hung out with grandpa...back in the day).

Absolutely do not want to give anything that is computer related. I hate seeing children not enjoying the outdoors. There are some great suggestions here.....food for thought.

I called and asked my son and he was the one who put the "no computer related" issue on the table. Yup we have done the kite thing, ice cream thing, bb gun too.......
