Suggested Recommendation to FIX Iboats for interum

As we can all verify next to nothing is working correctly. Most all are trying to hang in here long enough to allow iboats to figure the issues out. Without getting into all what is not working I will suggest going back to a previous version. I would hope someone has a version even a year ago which can be reloaded. Sure we would loose all previous history and postings but it would allow the system to work again.

If this is not possible, I will continue to try and hang in

Prolly just go back to mid-May, right before the upgrade. . . would loose about 3 weeks of posts.

I assume we were on version 4 of vBulletin then? :noidea:

Asked & answered elsewhere: no go backs, only forward progress

I can't understand why it's so confusing to so many. Anybody really think those in charge at iboats don't care a GREAT deal that this mess is so painfully going sideways? That they don't know how profoundly it'll effect their bottom line as the problems continue to drag on? Or that anyone involved isn't doing everything they can to resolve the problem?

Backing out hasn't been discussed. I'm sure that would be absolutely the last resort and I don't think it's even on the radar at the moment. As mentioned, we would have to reload the databases from the backups that were done right before the update. Everything up to this point would be lost. We would still be susceptible to security breaches. When we would have to upgrade again, we run the risk of addressing the same issues. No thanks. We're in the middle of the conversion, let's keep moving forward........

Look forward to when it's fixed, and I am sure everyone at iboats is doing everything they can do fix it. Just thought maybe a back out would allow more time, I was mistaken in this area. I see the post was moved to website issues, and that's where I wanted to post it but it could not be found when I looked

All the best to all

The Hull Truth is using version 3.7.6, so I imagine their universe should be imploding, dogs and cats living together, and all that, because of the security flaws.

I would imagine, they have not been doing their security upgrades over the period of time that VB has been updating, that creates a real serious problem and quite a bit of risk to those using that system, but if you want to take the chance, then more power to you, myself, knowing what I know about this software as well as servers will continue to watch here as it gets better and more stable.

I don't see how browsing as a guest would be a significant risk. Is that correct? However, the copyright for the software goes up to 2014. Does that suggest patches up to this year?

It all depends on how your browser is set up, the hackers can insert code that will execute if you are allowing java, flash or active X to run when you open the page. As far as copyright, that is just a simple header or footer text change and you can have it state it is copyrighted any year you want. VB 3.7.6 it quite a few versions from the current version, and the reason they have to keep updating software is to fix holes that hackers have figured out how to exploit in each version. It is a game of cat and mouse. I do all of the security upgrades for my wife's internet company and it seems like an endless job!

sphelps, watch where the icon posts when you click the button, sometimes it defaults to the beginning of the message.

It's the 'new & improved' faculties & logic sensor resident in Vbulletin 5.666, it runs a complimentary scan & then acts accordingly. Just a simple check to see if you're paying attention & have a fully functioning head on your shoulders is all.

Good news Mr Phelps, you passed :juggle:

For those of you posting in multiple forums and Topics asking why we don't downgrade & go back to the way it was, :censored:, sadly, you have not passed the logic & faculties sensor's scan....... :hurt:

You can expect a call from the fella's in the white lab coats w/ the clipboards & electric probes :phone:

AND yes, the Vb version 5.666 reference WAS deliberate......

I have trouble when I use my laptop. The space bar is right above the mouse touch pad and my thumb hits the pad sometimes when I depress the space bar. Makes the cursor jump all over the place. Usually to the top where your smilies are since I hit the top of the pad. I have to really reread or I post gooblygook.

Wonder why this is the only place I receive an email response to a post and the only place I have an increase post count? Just strange

You are getting emails, because you have not changed your profile, you need to go into your profile and define what you want to receive emails from.
