Suddenly dies

I have a '92 Mercury 150 EFI that suddenly dies. It runs great for a while and then suddenly shuts down. I have changed fuel filters and plugs. It does not matter if it is wide open or idling it just shuts down. If you wait a few minutes it starts up and runs fine. It is very ramdom. I may go several trips and nothing and then happens a couple times in the same trip. It is very frustrating. Any help would be great.

I suspect dirt in the carb/carbs. Their are little pin hole openings inside that once they clog up it wont idle and is subject to cut off.

When it shuts down leave key ON and remove cowling. have someone turn key off and back on. listen to see if electric fuel pump comes on. If not pump or driver in ECU is bad. If you need to know how to test pump and driver circuit just post back

The pump is working. What is the ECU and how much does one cost. Could the problem be with the stator? It seems to happen on fairly long runs. If I put it in and run to the fishing hole and then fish no problem but if I start to run and gun that is when problems occur. It starts again after a short time off and will run just fine. Very frustrating
