My 3.0 inboard took on some water and the starter did get submerged with salt water-is there anything recommended that I should do to clean/prevent corrosion or future damage from occuring ?

Thanks in advance...

Re: Submerged starter

I had a similar experience, salt water and all. I rinsed in fresh water and spayed the heck out of it with WD-40. It lasted another 5 years.

Welcome to iboats......:)
Pull the starter now & have it rebuilt or replace it, before it fails while you are on the water.....
It will now, since submerged in salt.....
How soon?
Only the wizard knows.....:):)
Save yourself the aggravation of breaking down on the water while you can.......;)

Re: Submerged starter

I have had two starters submerged, one in salt and one in fresh. Both looked like mud inside after less than a week. I was glad I pulled them.

Re: Submerged starter

Luckily, I do have a spare starter-the current (previously submerged) was rebuilt last month...I am going to swap them out today. Is there anything that I can do to 'salvage' or clean the freshy rebuilt..? I feel comfortable taking the starter apart-any areas of concern that I should pay attention to after I get it apart...any techniques that I can use to clean it?

Thanks again

Kevin
