Stupid question on Gimbal bearing replacement

Is it ok to replace the gimbal bearing and not remove the drive bellows? It came out ok through there ok. Besides the cramped space to work in, is there a mechanical reason that makes that a no-no?

I just replaced mine on my Volvo Penta SX drive without taking the bellows off. Worked like a charm.

Thanks- I was having trouble getting the thing to seat back up against the seal and thought I might be missing something. Thank you for the help. mike

If your going through all the trouble of replacing the bearing you should replace the bellows too.
