Re: Stupid Human's Trick

good point--a crab pot float at 30 mph between the legs might solve the Darwinian issue.
I hit a submerged 2x8x10' this summer while pulling a tube; it was so waterlogged it was hovering just under the surface. Had a hard time going back anbd finding the pieces. I cut it in half. I guess my line to the tube was 50-75' and I was able to slow and avoid the tube from hitting the halves--which flew up in the air when they exited from under the hull, right where those morons would have been. So if that can happen to a safe sober alert boater keeping a lookout, imagine what could befall the kind of captain who'd drag folks like that?

Re: Stupid Human's Trick

lots of fail in this thread, and i'm not talking about the video...

First, not a jet. No where close to enough prop wash. A jet would have completely stripped the clothes off the girl when she was dead center! (no really, i'm not kidding, long story that i don't need to tell on here!) its an inboard, the video creator confirmed that on the thread on youtube.

second, carbon monoxide. Several wake inboards are now being made specially with an under-water exhaust outlet for just this reason. People do wakesurfing right behind the boat and exhaust obviously is a concern. There is also an aftermarket add on kit for exactly this purpose.
http://www.onlyinboards.com/Ski-boat-accessories/fresh-air-exhaust.html

So anyway, just because it isn't something you would do doesn't automatically make it stupid or dangerous if done correctly.

Nope, But ILLEGALis still illegal add on aftermarket not withstanding;)

Re: Stupid Human's Trick

I'm with the FAIL comment referring to the posts here, not the video.

First, nobody has any clue as to where the video was taken, and it sure as heck isn't illegal everywhere on earth.

Second, as noted above, it is an inboard and was stated as such in the video comments. "Oh, I can tell by the vector angle of the prop wash radius it is a jet drive" Yeah, right.

Third, a "few feet from an active propeller"? You have seen helicopters and private airplanes, right? Heck, some you to need to spin up by hand! It is considered a given to be a foot in front of a running prop on those engines.

Personally, I would never heli-ski, but tons of people do it, my best friend included, and consider it plenty fun even with the risks. Just because you aren't a risk taker and want to live to see social security dry up, doesn't provide you any soapbox to force others to live the same way.

Those people were not risking anyone's lives but their own, which is theirs to live, not yours to dictate.

I dont care if they do it... Hell I sky dive, scuba dive and partake in risky exploits all the time. I dont care if they do it, i dont care if they die doing it. But if my kids try it I'm calling them idiots!

As already stated, it's a master craft ski boat.....inboard.....with that said......it's still dumb to do that....if the drunk driver hits a rock or anything at all.....say good bye to half of your body.

Did you catch how the California law banning it was passed because of two kids dying. Imagine when they realize how many people a year die while walking!

I dunno............looks like fun. Incredibly stupid, but fun.

People do stupid stuff all the time. Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane comes to mind.

Or how bout jumping off a bridge with a rubber band around your ankle? playing tag with a bull and a red cape? parking your butt on a tiny sled and screaming down an ice chute B*lls first at about 60 mph?

People do stupid stuff all the time.

Yes, how about how many people die in autos, or planes or in their sleep.....

It's more about how many people die during a particular activity in relation to how many people actually partake of that activity......and of course who gets involved during the legaslative process.

Can we not argue about silly comparisions?

Far as I'm concerned, the world's overpopulated and if folks want to nominate themselves for a darwin award.....HAVE AT IT!!!

You can't legislate STUPIDITY!!!!

Personally, if someone wants to do stuff like that, it's their business. It's called "Natural Selection" meaning, if you are really that stupid, get off the planet, you're NOT helping us.

Where I have a issue is when someone does get hurt, then the friends/family (Usually the people behind it to begin with) end up sueing everyone (Boat company, Engine Company, ect.) and we all end up having to put something else on our boats that likely reduces performance and/or increases operating costs.

Re: Stupid Human's Trick

Chalk this up for number two of the dumb things I ever done that I learned from iBoats that I wont do no more.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah it's illegal in CA too.

http://www.dbw.ca.gov/PressRoom/2004/041231TeakSurf.aspx

you know what I can't figure out about the CO stickers which you read about here:

http://www.dbw.ca.gov/BoaterInfo/CODanger.aspx#whatIsCO

....is that I don't have one on my boat, and it wasn't mentioned when I got boarded, and I don't recall ever seeing one. Yet there's that state bill that passed that supposedly requires it.

Wel, there you have it. Teak surfing is safer than waking.

Re: Stupid Human's Trick

I guess Im not standing in line to try this, but what makes everyone feel this is so much more dangerous than bungee jumping, sky diving, base jumping... etc.

How about flinging yourself 30 feet into the air on a motorcycle, 15ft in the air on a skateboard, doing near 60mph on snow skis, running a car around a track at 200mph.

People do extreme sports everyday and have died in small numbers. Injuries in masses. How is this different?
