The original one stripped out. I got used parts, "like new" and they are in perfect condition, to reinstall.

Very annoying when you can see the problem, but it is so hard to access.

this is only a suggestion but can a friend with a stick welder weld a threaded bar around the hole (which is stripped) leaving enough showing so you could put a socket which is larger than the outer diameter of the stuck stud,and thread prutruding through the 1/2" drive socket, a couple of solid washers and a nut and draw it out by rotating the nut.

The hole isn't stripped, just the splines are, lost steering because of that. I'm going to cut the old gimbal ring in half so hopefully it will come out easly and free up the pin. I also need to make sure I can get the new parts assembled in the order the old ones are coming off.

So, I got it out. Turns out the shaft was hung up on the gimbal ring where I tried to drill through to place a bolt in to see if it would work. I also found out that the way I hit one of the threads was what enjoyed many of my drill bits. Looks like my problem came from the spindle making the hole oblonged, which put all the stress on the front half of the splines, causing them to strip.

I just went out there again and I noticed the bellow had what looked to be a stretch mark. I touched this trying to figure out if it needed to get replaced and it TORE open. Guess it isn't a question now. There goes another $100.

glad you got it out.it did look to be in a right ol' state.you may as well replace the gimbal as well as you've stripped it down this far.you'll be happy in the end though its just a shame the summers ticking by whilst your delving.

I know. IT SUCKS!!!!! 3rd time I had my boat out this year. That is what you get with old boats though.
