Stuck stearing cable

Hello , I have a 1982 Mercrusier 470 ,and am back to the rebuild .I found that the stearing cable is frozen in its sleave.How do I remove the cable to replace it ?

Ayuh,.... If ya can't get the cable outa the tube, replace the tube as well as the cable,.....

They sometimes corrode together, 'n takin' 'em apart destroys the tube,...

Unfortunately, alittle grease woulda stopped this from happenin',...

if they are corroded together, a sawzall or cut-off wheel works to remove them. then replace everything from the helm to tube
