Eureka!!!! Success with freing up my steering cabe. It was so simple, that my colleague was miffed that a more explicit answer was not readily avaiableon this site.. if not for an old post from years ago, i still might be frustrated. This guy said it was corroded at the steering knuckle end of the steering cable where the tube and guide meet. The "corrosion" was about 4 inches up into the guide tube. His idea of heating and melting the grease was right on. with minimal effort we soon had the entire length of the cable that goes through the tube all de-gunked and greased with new lube. We put it back in the boat and voila.....steering fixed and smooth as silk On to the next problem. But this was a big milestone....boating not much fun when can only go in circles. Anyway, anyone else with this problem...don't be afraid to apply even heat on that guide tube and free that stuck steering !!! Happy boating!!
