Hello-
I have a 1989 Evinrude 90 hp VRO, mod# E90TLCEM. The last time I was on the water I was coming into the landing and when I let off the throttle the motor seemed to be stuck at high throttle. When I got home I took the cover off to investigate. When I started it up with the muffs on it was off to the races again. I messed with the throttle linkage a little bit but it didn’t want to go back down to the closed position very easily. After a few tries it went back down but through the process testing it now appears to be stuck at wide open.

I read a few post and thought about a stuck reed or something but really don’t have a clue. All ideas are welcome!

Thanks
Jeffo

Sounds like a broken shifter cable or one that is sticking.

Remove the cable and see if the throttle actuator goes back to idle freely.

TMD

Yes, what Marine Doctor said. A reed problem shouldn't cause this. The carburators are venturi type and shouldn't flow more fuel unless the butterflys open.
