Re: Striper.

Took my boat out by myself for the first time today. 1 twelve in striper. Nothing while attempting to troll, although I don't know if I was doing it right or not, lol...but I tried anyways. I'm starting to hate striper.

They're afraid of you ngt! They read this board and see that you eat everything you catch.

... maybe you should do a couple catch and release reports to ease their minds?

They bit on yellow/green power eggs on Saturday morning. Again I fish in a stocked lake, but they put bigger trout in this time. The two smaller ones are the regular ones and they had white meat in them. The two bigger ones had very bright dark orange meat in them. Like Salmon Roe color almost. A guy pulled a 6 pounder out of the lake the same day. I saw a couple of 24 inch+ trout swimming like 3-5 feet from the shore. I saw 3 little splashes and looked down thinking it was 3 little trout, but it was the tail fin, dorsal, and head of a bigger one that I could have poked with my rod from the shore. Might head back out tomorrow morning.

I save all of the skin and guts together for crab bait. Nothing goes to waste :)

Oh, and if you're fishing with 18 inch trout as bait, I want to come fishing with you :D

A Striper would have no problem inhaling a 18" trout. I've caught many a striper that hit a bait as big as they are.

The biggest striper I have caught is about 25 inches or so and I'm having a tough time seeing one try to inhale an 18 inch trout. Yet another reason I need a real fisherman to take me fishing. lol

They stock trout in a creek up here that drains into the susquehanna river... the muskies love to sit there and wait for 'em in april.

I brought home 3 stripers last Thursday, all between 15-20#, trolling trout imitation baits....

^^^ YUP !!! I caught a 40# striper with a 3# carp jammed down it's gullet, the carp was easily 18". Couple years ago I caught a striper with 8 trout in it's belly, they were in different states of digestion.

Re: Striper.

Stupid question.: When you guys say 15-20 "#" is that pounds of inches?

Man I have got to figure out trolling. I want a consistent way of catching striper. I know there's always those no-fish days, but if I go out and fish for 5-8 hours in my boat, I should be bringing home fish :( Time to find someone who knows wtf they are doing.

Re: Striper.

In Central PA we like to use live trout for Stripers. They eat 'em up pretty quick ... and you want to use and 8 - 10 inch trout for the smaller stripers (20+# - yes, ngt, that is POUNDS, not inches).

thanks!

I love how you guys call a 20 pound striper a "smaller one". If I ever catch a 20 pound striper my smile might split the sides of my face, lol.

Can't call a striper a "big one" until it's over 40#.... :D

We just call them "keepers" at 18 inches, lol. There are no 40 pound stripers. Until you come to NorCal and show me how to catch them, they're nothing but a myth :D

Tastes like chicken!!!

They're delicious!!!:p

The 30 inchers are the best, not too big or small... just right!:)
The muskie gods will be VERY angry with you! (I prefer the 40" because the bones are easier to filet out)

Re: Striper.

Probably why you don't have any big ones. We have a 28" minimum size, 32" minimum during the Spring run.

... and y'all have a limit of 2 per person, right?

Our limit for stocked landlocked Striped Bas is 2 over 16", but you can have 28 more under 16" on most lakes. We do have 1 lake that has a self-sustaining population of Striped Bass and the limit on that lake is 30 of any size... but the lake is too shallow for them to get more than 20 lbs., the problem with most of our lakes. but we do have 2 lakes where the Stripers are nearing 50 lbs.
