Aw, you do not need a guide, what ya' do need to remember, is when all else fails run the chovie through the bilge, you laugh if you want, but I know what stripers like.

Goldfish! prob illegal...but if theres already carp in the lake I say whats the harm.....besides the goldfish dont get that big anyways...lol

Im looking fwd to catching some stripers this year...now that the cooler weather is comin in Im gonna make it a point to go striper fishin soon.
Im gonna check out kingman wash area....like meadfisher was mentioning....

I wonder if a plastic bucket with some holes in it tied to a rope, then a mushed up bag of anchovies inside with some holes in the bag...would chum up the water good for getting the scent in the water around the boat... at the least it would be a stinky boat hull!

Last I checked, goldfish are legal bait in NV. I haven't used them, but don't see why they wouldn't work well. Buy a couple dozen at WalMart and see how they work. I think they sell 2 sizes of feeder fish and from the size of shad we were pulling up, 1>2.5", both sizes would work.

I'm not sure the mushed up chovie thing would work. It would get the scent in the water, but not much for them to feed on. I cut the chum into small pieces, like 1/8" > 1/4" slices off a chovie. If I'm lazy I'll just chuck in the heads/tails.

We grind up bunker, misc fish parts, etc. and freeze it into blocks. Milk jugs with the tops cut off work great. Depending on the water temps, a block will last 45-minute to an hour.

When we get to out spot, we put one block in a chum bag and attached it to the anchor before throwing it overboard. The second chum bag is tied off on the down current side of the boat.

You then chunk with small pieces of bait in the chum line. Try to cover the entire water columns with your baits. Some day they like the lines with no weight, the next they like the baits in the middle of the water column. I always fish a whole bunker head right behind the boat on the bottom. I don't catch many on that line but the ones you do catch are big.

I fish for stripes at Guntersville Dam, The best bait to fish for them is using threadfin shads (everyone around here call them yellowtails). You can dip them up by the thousands against the wall at the dam. If you are in a boat the best method is to run your boat up to the the boils and throw out and bounce the bottom on the drift down river. If your bank fishing the same thing but you have to do what every one calls walk the wall,( throw bait right up against the dam and bounce the weight off the bottom until you get to the bottom of the walkway.) There will be a lot of people doing the same thing, you just have to get in line and be patient. This time of year you can use popping corks and a jig behind them and spooks for top water bites. I've seen some big salts come out of that river as well as some good hybrids. The river below the dam is also good for catching white bass using rooster tails and shiners.

Not sure is it is okay, Goldfish can carry KHV (Koi Herpes Virus) and show no signs of it. However, when the Koi and common carp get it they die. Remember the stinky mess at Mohave June 2009. Good way to rid a lake of carp, thought I read somehwere the Aussies who don't like carp has used this method but the British who like carp doesn't want them to do this. It can wipe the expensive Koi out at the Palaces in England and Japan also, mean trick. Doesn't affect Humans or any other fish, so you don't need to worry about catching herpes at Lake Mead. But, we can just blame it on the Aussies here on vacation. I got a buddy who fishes for carp out there, they taste good smoked. Any one interested in this, just google Dead carp in Mohave Lake. Or, KHV.

I am fishing in Kentucky on Lake Cumberland. I am catching fish on bucktail jugs with a pearl or white 3-4 inch twister tail or #9 shad raps at night under lights.
